Junior Achievement of South Florida
Career Bound and Pre-Apprenticeship Programs
Junior Achievement of South Florida prepares students for success in work and life through hands-on learning in financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship. The Career Bound and Pre-Apprenticeship programs connect high school students with real professionals, real stories, and real pathways into the workforce.
As a volunteer speaker, Maya meets with high school students from Broward County schools to talk about careers in entrepreneurship and the trades, sharing the realities of building a business, leading teams, and growing a career in service-driven industries like roofing and construction.
Through these sessions, Maya helps students:
- See entrepreneurship and the trades as viable, respected career paths.
- Understand the skills that matter most: communication, reliability, problem-solving, and teamwork.
- Connect what they are learning in school to real opportunities in their own communities.
Children's Harbor Career Expo
Career Expo 2025
Children's Harbor's mission is to strengthen families of seriously ill children through refuge, respite, and resources. These no-cost services are offered at both The Harbor Family Center located at Children's of Alabama in Birmingham, and at the Lake Martin retreat facility in Alexander City. Children's Harbor has been in service since 1989.

Children's Harbor also hosts career expos for youth in foster care and challenging circumstances, giving them exposure to different careers and caring adults. Maya participates in these events to share her path in business, leadership, and consulting, and to show students that their story does not have to limit their future.

We look for organizations that align with our core values and our expertise, especially those focused on youth, leadership, career readiness, and access to opportunity. We choose partners who are accountable to their communities and interested in long-term impact, not just one-time visibility.

Many of our partnerships are in South Florida and connected to the industries we serve, such as construction, trades, and service-based businesses. However, our main filter is mission and impact, not just geography or sector.
